Desert

The upper Mojave Desert is filled with natural wonders. Visitors can explore the grand sandstone pillars of Red Rock Canyon State Park north of Mojave or travel near Ridgecrest to view the magnificent tufa spires of the Trona Pinnacles or the volcanic splendor of Fossil Falls.

The desert is also where you'll find Kern's military presence. Edwards Air Force Base near Mojave and China Lake Naval Air Weapons Station at Ridgecrest are two of the nation's most important facilities for the development of high tech aircraft and ordinance.
