Mountains

Kern County's mountains, rivers, streams and lakes beckon visitors to enjoy anything from water recreation to romantic picnics by a mountain stream. Winter brings snow to the higher elevations with downhill skiing in the Sierras and cross-country skiing in the Los Padres National Forest.

For breathtaking vistas, follow the area's back roads. Tehachapi Mountain Park boasts elevations from 4,000-7,000 feet and is ideal for summer escapes. Nearby activities include soaring, farmer's markets, a wind farm driving tour and the world famous Tehachapi Loop - a favorite with railroad buffs.
